According to comScore, a US-based Internet analytics company, Pinterest is the fastest social networking site to reach 10 million unique monthly visitors. With over 72.8 million global users (as of August this year), Pinterest has always been the perfect goldmine for e-commerce stores. Why? Based on a recent research by Millward Brown, a US-based market research organization focusing on media and communications, 93 percent of Pinners use Pinterest to plan their purchases, and 87 percent of Pinners said they have purchased something because of Pinterest.
However, the site missed a crucial cog, until recently. Anyone coming across a picture of an interesting piece of furniture was just able to Pin it to his board and contact the seller if enough information was available, but not buy the product directly from Pinterest. Good news is that Pinterest rolled out its Pinterest Buyable Pins feature recently in June, available to US users on iPad and iPhone. Don’t be disappointed, as the feature will soon be available on Android and desktop versions worldwide.
The Pinterest Buyable Pins feature is touted to change the way we shop. For instance, you’re looking to buy a new jacket and try a search on Pinterest. While the search results will show the most popular products, you’ll notice that some Pins are showing a blue price tag. These are the ones you can buy directly from Pinterest e-commerce. If you want something more specific, filter by price to hone in on the Pin you’re interested in. You can even swipe through different colors if the seller provides more than one option. And if not in a mood to buy, you can always Pin your pick and come back later to make the purchase.
If you use Shopify or Demandware to power your e-commerce store, signing up for Pinterest Buyable Pins is just a matter of minutes. Pinterest has collaborated with these two platforms to enable their retail clients to leverage the phenomenal daily traffic of the social networking site. Just log in to your Shopify or Demandware account, and you can add the Pinterest sales channel. Once you’re approved by Pinterest, all your product Pins on Pinterest will automatically incorporate the ‘Buy It’ button. Furthermore, Shopify or Demandware will also automatically synchronize all your orders, products and customers on Pinterest.
If you’re worried about the checkout, Pinterest has kept it simple and secure. As ‘Buyable Pins’ is available on Apple devices right now, the site has partnered with Apple Pay and experienced payment processors, in order to make sure that every payment information is safe and shoppers are left with the most satisfactory experience.
